Thank you for purchasing DirtBags and demanding less of the planet. To ensure your DirtBags last for many miles and return to the earth properly at the end of their life, please follow these guidelines.
How to Care for Your DirtBags
Because DirtBags are made with plant-based bioplastics rather than fossil fuels, they need a little more love than standard plastic.
Before First Use
Wash your DirtBags thoroughly with warm, soapy water below 40c and we use an eco soap like Ecover.
Let them air dry on a rack and then pack them away in a dry cupboard ready for their first adventure.
Cleaning After a Run
Rinse: Fill the bag halfway with warm soapy water.
Agitate: Seal the bag and shake vigorously to loosen any sticky gel or powder residue.
Deep Clean: For stubborn corners, use your fingers and remove any gel, powder or crumbs.
Dry: Prop the bag open upside down on a drying rack. Try not to bend the zips in the middle of the bags as this makes it harder to seal them for future use.
Ensure the bag is 100% dry before sealing it for storage
What to Avoid
No Dishwashers: The high heat of a dishwasher will warp the bioplastic.
No Microwaves or Boiling Water: Keep your DirtBags away from extreme heat, but they can work with cold soaking foods.
No Direct Sunlight: Store in a cool, dry place out of direct UV light to maintain the material's integrity.
Sustainability & Disposal
DirtBags are designed to be part of a circular economy. They are made from certified compostable, food-grade materials.
The Lifespan
A single DirtBag can replace dozens of single-use plastic wrappers or even more if you really take care of them. Use it until the seal or the material shows signs of wear.
How to Dispose
When your DirtBag finally reaches the end of its life, do not put it in your standard plastic recycling bin.
Home Compost: Place the bag in your home compost heap. It will break down and biodegrade naturally into organic matter. The guidelines are that 90% of the material should break down within 12 months of composting.
Food Waste Bin: Most UK councils accept certified compostable packaging in the food waste/brown bin. Check your local council guidelines as this changes from county to county and from country to country.
Landfill: If you have no other option, a DirtBag in a landfill is still better than a plastic one (not that we recommend this). It will eventually break down and as they have a smaller impact in their production compared to energy gel packets, it means you've still demanded less of the planet.
